Emirates EVRT to Bolster UAE’s Transition into a Low-Carbon Future

Emirates Electric Vehicle Road Trip’s participation at the 10th edition of the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi will further drive the UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda of implementing green growth plans in the country.

Dubai, UAE, January 2017 – Emirates Electric Vehicle Road Trip (Emirates EVRT) will showcase the best of electric vehicle technology and key sustainability efforts at the 2017 World Future Energy Summit (WFES), from 16th to 19th January 2017.

Taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, WFES is the Middle East’s largest event for renewable energy in Abu Dhabi. The Emirates EVRT team will highlight their efforts in sustainability, along with their partners, explaining how they contribute to creating a low-carbon future. Emirates EVRT will also educate visitors on the long-term viability of using battery-powered vehicles.

Located in Hall 8 at Stand 8440, three electric vehicles from various manufacturers, scheduled to make the 700km trip through all seven Emirates from 29th January – 1st February 2017, will be on display.  There will also be electric vehicle experiences at the summit which attendees can win by taking a photo of an electric car and #EVRT.

The team will also be demonstrating one of the 10 electric vehicle charging stations currently being installed across the Emirates, in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Abu Dhabi.

Wim Alen, Senior Vice President of Business Development at ENGIE, a key sponsor and the supplier of the charging stations explains why they are supporting the Emirates EVRT. “ENGIE supports the Emirates EVRT, because it offers a real-life experience of the transition towards green cities, green mobility and green parking. ENGIE is offering worldwide energy solutions supporting the adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles.  ENGIE is a key player in the UAE’s electricity sector and wants to support our stakeholders’ initiative to be frontrunners and innovators in green mobility. ENGIE is supplying the charging stations for four locations demonstrating its support to Emirates EVRT and its ability to roll-out such innovative solutions efficiently for prospective customers.”

A Tesla Model S, a Renault Zoe, and a Volkswagen Retrofitted Electric Car belonging to Wiebe Wakker, the man behind the energy ‘Plug Me In’ documentary, will be showcased at the event. Wakker, who is part of the Emirates EVRT team, is travelling from the Netherlands to Australia by electric car without any money since March 2016, to make a documentary about sustainability.

Ben Pullen, Founder and Managing Director of Global Electric Vehicle Road Trip says, “Our reason for being at WFES is to prepare the UAE for the momentous road-trip we are about to undertake, showcasing the best in Electric Vehicle technology and exploring challenges and opportunities with our stakeholders.”

He adds, “We will also share knowledge on the build-up of the supporting ecosystem and the increased awareness on what adopting Electric Vehicles means for sustainability.  We believe the UAE is ideally positioned to embrace Electric Vehicles aggressively; it is a car-loving country, a new technology adopter and has a supporting and proactive government when it comes to sustainability. It’s small geographic area reduces Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure investment significantly.”

The Emirates EVRT team also aims to expand on the purpose of the first Emirates Electric Vehicle Road Trip, starting in Dubai and ending at The Sustainable City.  At WFES, Emirates EVRT will outline the route and various activities along the way that will further enforce the region’s clean-tech innovations.  The key to their attendance at WFES will be to demonstrate their work towards creating an electric vehicle boom over the past nine months in the UAE.

Tickets to win dinner experiences in Ras Al Khaimah and Abu Dhabi as part of the Emirates EVRT will be up for grabs.  Competitions will be held on the Emirates EVRT Facebook and Instagram accounts, and ten (10) lucky winners will also receive tickets for the conference at The Sustainable City in Dubai on 1st February, marking the final day of the four-day road trip.
